Birthday Cake Hershey Kisses Ingredients
In celebration of Hershey’s Kisses turning 100 years old, what could be more appropriate than a Birthday Cake Hershey Kisses recipe? These little chocolate gems are the perfect addition to any birthday cake, cupcake, or even ice cream!
Ingredients: -1 package (14 ounces) Hershey’s Kisses -Unwrapped 1/2 cup vegetable shortening -3 Tablespoons all-purpose flour -1 teaspoon baking powder Dash salt 3 eggs -1 cup sugar.
Instructions: Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans. Line the bottom of each pan with wax paper; set aside. Place kisses in a large resealable bag; set aside. In a medium bowl, combine shortening, flour, baking powder, and salt; mix well. In a large bowl, beat eggs at high speed until light and lemon colored. Gradually add sugar, beating until thickened. Add shortening mixture to egg mixture; mix well.
Bake at 350°F for 25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean when removed from the cake (the top will remain puffy). Pour the remaining batter into prepared pans. Reserve 1/4 cup batter for topping cakes later.
Remove from oven to wire racks; cool for 10 minutes before removing cakes from pans by inverting onto plates lined with wax paper circles cut slightly smaller than the diameter of cakes (this is optional but will make it easier when adding frosting between the layers). Remove wax paper circles from the bottoms of cooled cakes using a small knife or spatula if desired (this step can also be done once the frosting is applied). Cool completely on wire racks before filling and frosting as desired.
To fill and frost your Birthday Cake, Hershey Kisses: If you want a classic chocolate buttercream flavor, try this recipe or use your favorite store-bought frosting or icing recipe/brand. I used about 3 cups of buttercream between the filling and frosting for this cake which was just enough but depending on how thick/thin you spread it; you may have some leftovers – always better to have too much than not enough! You could also use whipped topping, pudding, or anything else you like in the middle and on top! Be creative 🙂 Once your cake is filled and frosted as desired, place the reserved 1/4 cup batter into a small resealable baggie and snip off one corner – this will be your “piping” bag for adding the Hershey Kisses around the edge, as shown in the photos above.
Gently press them into place; start by pipetting 4 spoonfuls of batter evenly around the outer edge, making sure they touch so that when you pipe between them, it creates an uninterrupted line – again, refer to photos.
Continue piping lines of batter every inch or so inward until you reach the center – don’t worry if it isn’t perfect because once they are all in place, no one will ever know 😉 Let sit for several minutes so that the “glue” has time to set up, then fill in any gaps with extra kisses if needed – I found 12-15 was plenty per layer.
In Summary
Hershey’s Birthday Cake Kisses are gluten-free, according to the company. The ingredients include sugar, cocoa butter, milk, chocolate, and vanilla flavor. There is no wheat, barley, or rye in the product.
