How to Sew a Gift Bag?

Making your gift bags is a great way to save money and add a personal touch to your gift-giving. Plus, it’s not that difficult! In this tutorial, I’ll show you how to sew a simple gift bag that can be used repeatedly.

You’ll need some basic sewing supplies and a little time, but I promise it will be worth it. Let’s get started!

  • Choose a fabric for the bag
  • A cotton or linen fabric will work well
  • Cut two rectangles of fabric, one for the front and one for the back of the bag
  • The rectangles should be twice as wide as they are tall
  • Sew the two rectangles together along the sides and bottom, leaving the top open
  • Fold down the top edge of the bag to create a hem, and sew it in place
  • Now you can decorate your gift bag as desired! Add a ribbon handle, some appliqués, or whatever you like to make it your own.

How Do You Make a Fabric Gift Bag?

If you’re looking for a unique and personal way to wrap a gift, look no further than a fabric gift bag! Fabric gift bags are easy to make, and you can customize them to fit any occasion. Plus, they can be used over and over again, which makes them a great eco-friendly option.

Here’s how to make your fabric gift bag:

1. Choose your fabric. You’ll need enough fabric to cover the front and back of the bag, plus a strip for the handles. Consider using festive holiday fabrics or patterns that coordinate with the recipient’s interests.

2. Cut two pieces of fabric that are slightly larger than the finished size of the bag. For example, if you want your finished bag to be 10″ x 12″, then cut your pieces of fabric 11″ x 13″.

3. Place the two pieces of fabric wrong sides together and sew around all four sides, leaving a 3″ opening at the top of the bag.

4. Turn the bag right side out and press flat. Topstitch around all four sides of the bag, close to the edge but not too close to the opening. This will help close the opening and give your bag a nice finish.

5. Cut two strips of fabric for handles, each about 22″ long by 2 1/2″ wide. Fold each strip in half lengthwise and press.

Sew along both long sides of each handle, as close to the edge as possible. Then turn each handle right side out and press flat.

6. Attach handles to the top edges of the bag, placing handles so that their raw edges are aligned with the raw edges of bag panels( see photo ).

What are the Steps to Make a Gift Bag?

If you’re looking for a quick and easy way to wrap a gift, look no further than the humble gift bag. Gift bags come in all shapes and sizes and can be decorated to suit any occasion. Best of all, they’re super easy to make! Follow these simple steps, and you’ll have a beautiful gift bag.

  • 1. Start with a square piece of paper. Fold it in half width-wise so that you have a long rectangle.
  • 2. Fold the top edge about an inch, then fold the bottom edge to meet it. This will create a pocket for your handles.
  • 3. Cut two strips of paper or ribbon for handles, and glue them into the pockets on either side of your rectangle.
  • 4. Decorate your bag as desired! You can use stickers, stamps, washi tape, or anything else.
  • 5. Fill your bag with goodies, and voila!

How Do You Make a Lined Fabric Gift Bag?

Assuming you would like a tutorial on how to make a lined fabric gift bag: You will need the following:

  • -1/2 yard of cotton fabric for the exterior of the bag
  • -1/2 yard of lining fabric
  • -Coordinating thread
  • -Scissors
  • -Pins
  • -Sewing machine
  • -Iron and ironing board

Instructions:

1. Start by cutting your fabrics. You will need two rectangles that are 18″ wide and 22″ tall for the exterior of the bag and two rectangles that are 18″ wide and 22″ tall for the lining.

2. Next, hem all four sides of each rectangle. To do this, fold over 1/4″ of fabric on each side and press with an iron. Then, fold over 1/4″ and press again. Sew along the edge with a coordinating thread. Repeat for all four sides on both the exterior and lining fabrics.

3. Now it’s time to sew the side seams! With the right sides, sew along 18″ sides on both the exterior and lining fabrics using a 3/8″ seam allowance. Press these seams open with an iron once they’re sewn.

4. Now it’s time to attach the handles! Cut two strips of fabric 2″ wide by 24″ long. Fold each strip in half lengthwise so that it is now 1″ wide by 24″ long, and press with an iron to crease down the middle. Open back up and fold each long side in towards the center crease so that they meet in the middle (again, this will make them 1″ wide). Press well with an iron, then topstitch down each long side about 1/8″ from the edge using a coordinating thread color (this will help keep those folds in place). Do this for both handle strips, then find the center point of each strip (12″) and mark with a pin or chalk marker on both ends; this is where you’ll attach them to your bag later on

What Material is Used for Gift Bags?

Gift bags come in various materials, including paper, cloth, and plastic. Paper gift bags are the most popular type of bag used for gifts. They are made from recycled paper and are reusable.

Cloth gift bags are also popular, but paper bags are less durable than paper bags and are not usually reusable. Plastic gift bags are less popular than paper or cloth bags but can be reused multiple times.

1. Start by cutting two pieces of fabric that are the same size. You can make your gift bag as big or small as you like; be sure to cut both pieces of fabric to the same size.

2. Place the two pieces of fabric right sides together and sew around the edges, leaving a small opening for turning.

3. Turn the bag right side out and press the seams flat. Then topstitch around the entire perimeter of the bag to close up the opening.

Fat Quarter Gift Bag

A fat quarter is a piece of fabric that is cut to measure 18″ x 22″. Fat quarters are often used in quilting but can also be used for other crafts, such as sewing and applique. If you are looking for a quick and easy gift idea, look no further than the fat quarter gift bag!

This project is perfect for using up those scraps of fabric you have been hanging onto. And best of all, it only takes about 30 minutes to make! Here’s what you’ll need:

  • -1 fat quarter of fabric (for the exterior of the bag)
  • -1 fat quarter of lining fabric
  • -Scissors
  • -Pins
  • -Sewing machine
  • -Thread

First, cut your fabrics into two rectangles measuring 18″ x 11″. Then, pin the right sides together and sew around the perimeter of the rectangle, leaving a 3″ opening at the bottom.

Next, turn the bag right side out and press it flat. Finally, topstitch around the entire perimeter of the bag to close up the opening.

That’s it! Your fat quarter gift bag is now complete. Now fill it with some goodies and give it to your favorite Sewing enthusiast or crafter!

Paper Gift Bag Pattern

If you’re looking for a quick and easy way to make a paper gift bag, this pattern is for you! This pattern makes a small paper bag perfect for holding a few small gifts, like jewelry or candies. The bag can be made with any paper, but I recommend using cardstock or construction paper for stability.

You can also decorate the bag however you like – I’ve included some ideas below. To make the bag, start by cutting two 8.5″x11″ rectangles of paper. Then, fold each rectangle in half to be 8.5″x5.5″.

Next, take one of the folded rectangles and make accordion folds (mountain folds and valley folds) along the long side, stopping about 1″ from the edge. Repeat with the other rectangle. Now it’s time to assemble the bag!

Take one of the accordion-folded pieces and stand it up so that it looks like an accordion (i.e., all of the mountain folds are facing up). Slip the other piece inside, aligning all of the edges. Use tape or glue to secure the two pieces at the top and bottom edges.

Finally, fold down the top flap and decorate as desired. That’s it – your paper gift bag is finished!
